6th UPES National Client Counselling Competition, 2017 (4th-5th November 2017- Dehradun, Uttarakhand)

School of Law, University of Petroleum & Energy Studies is proud to host the 6th UPES National Client Counselling Competition, 2017.

This Client Counselling competition addresses fundamental skills necessary for all successful attorneys, namely the ability to interview, counsel, and support a client through their legal issue. Competitors conduct an initial interview with a person playing the role of the client and then address both the client’s legal and non-legal issues.

Previous seasons of this competition were based on a wide range of Indian laws and statutes such as constitutional law, the contract law, Law of torts, consumer laws, criminal laws, Electronic Disputes and family laws which enunciated wide knowledge of the law.

This edition is based on the laws related to DISPUTES THEME. It involves the following subjects: Law of Contracts, Corporate Law, Law of Torts, Constitution Law, Family Law, Intellectual Property Rights, Information Technology Law, Criminal law, Environmental Law and other codified and un-codified laws relevant to the theme.

The Organising Committee of UPES has always endeavored to achieve higher standards with respect to every aspect of the competition, ranging from the quality of the problems to that of the judges and to ensure impeccable hospitality and professionalism. We cordially invite your institution to be a part of this experience and participate in the 6th UPES National Client Counselling Competition, 2017.


All the problems will be based on DISPUTES theme, involving the

following subjects:

 Law of Contracts, Corporate Law, Law of Torts, Constitution Law, Family law, Intellectual Property Rights, Information Technology Law, Criminal law, Environmental Law and other codified and un-codified laws relevant to the theme.




About Previous Ediction of  UPES National Client Counseling Competition


The 5th UPES Client Counselling Competition, with the theme, ‘Electronic Disputes’, was based on Information Technology Laws, Intellectual Property Laws, Law of Contracts and Criminal Laws and Constitutional Laws. The Chief Guest for the event was Hon’ble Justice Rajesh Tondon (Retd. High Court of Uttrakhand).


It was a three day event in which the preliminary rounds of the competition witnessed participation from 22 teams, eager to prove their mettle. After a couple of rounds, rife with tact and dexterity, 8 teams qualified for the semifinals which were Teams from Symbiosis Law School, Pune; National Law University Delhi; O.P. Jindal; Lloyd Law, College, Noida; NLSIU Bangalore; Classic College of Law; Symbiosis Law School, Noida; and out of these 8 semifinalists, the 4 teams which progressed towards the finals were, Symbiosis Law School Pune; NLU Delhi; O.P. Jindal; and Lloyd Law College.


The last day ended at the most awaited part of the three day event i.e. the Semi Finals rounds, the finals and later on, the declaration of the winning team of the 5th National Client Counselling Competition, 2016 in the valedictory ceremony who were, Symbiosis Law School, Pune.





10th October- 2017: Release of Rules and schedule of the Competition.

16th October-2017: Last date for Provisional Registration

17th October- 2017: Last date for Payment of Registration

25th October- 2017: Last Date for Clarifications and Queries

3rd November- 2017: Authorisation of Participants

4th – 5th November 2017: Dates of the competition




  • Registration of  the  participating teams for  this competition shall  be done  by sending  a mail about the team composition of the participants along with a scanned copy  of the filled  travel format nationalclientcounselling@gmail.comalong with the scanned copy of Demand Draft duly attached in  the e-mail,  latest  by 16th October, 2017.

  • Registration fee: Rs.4000/- per team.

  • The registration fee via NEFT shall be made in favour of University of Petroleum & Energy Studies before 16th October, 2017. Thereafter, the participants shall receive a confirmation mail of the registration done.
  • This confirmation mail from the host college shall be the final confirmation to the registration process.
